With the No. 74 overall pick, the San Francisco 49ers have selected Alabama running back Glen Coffee.
"I wasn't hearing that the 49ers were going to pick me up, but when they called my name, it's game time now," Coffee said to the media in his conference call. "I'm ready. Now I've finally got a team that I can go into camp and compete for a position for."
As a redshirt junior last season, Coffee earned All-Southeastern Conference first-team honors. He finished second on the school season-record list with 1,383 yards on 233 carries (5.9 avg). Coffee scored 10 touchdowns and was a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award given to the nation's top running back.
Coffee also succeeded off the field, winning the 2008 Derrick Thomas Community Service Award.
The former Crimson Tide back will be wearing number 29 with the 49ers.
