49ers Select Milo Lewis as Coach of the Week

The San Francisco 49ers Charlie Wedemeyer Memorial Coach of the Week award presented by the California National Guard for week six goes to Milo Lewis from Homestead High School in Cupertino, Ca.

Coach Milo Lewis' Homestead High School Mustangs displayed true perseverance with a shut-out against Cupertino after a hard loss the week prior. . Coach Lewis commends his team for not letting a tough loss influence his players and was proud of their hard work in kicking off the regular season with a resilience to lose. The offense proved to be unrelenting running the ball 30 times and accumulating 436 yards throughout the game, while is it said without words that the defense dominated with an overall score of 42-0.

"The defense was solid and consistent," describes Coach Lewis, "They shut down Cupertino and our offense never stopped pushing."

The Mustangs stampede was unstoppable as sophomore running back Rajah Ward came through in the first quarter with a 60-yard run to start the rally, concluding with 183 all-purpose yards and 2 touchdowns to drive the momentum throughout the game. Junior Quarterback Jerome Holloway was also a leading offensive player with an impressive 83-yard run for a touchdown, totaling168-yards rushing and 129-yards passing.

Unity produces strength, and the Mustangs presented top-notch teamwork and collaboration as they took the win in the home-opener. Fresh to the Homestead household, Coach Lewis has stressed the importance of teamwork and the responsibility of being a teammate both on and off the field.

"We want to teach the boys to be accountable," explains Coach Lewis, "We also want them to really understand what that means."

Their accountability among one another as teammates produced an overall outstanding win. Proud of his young team's performance, Coach Lewis believes that the first game of the season is a promising indication of what is to come for the Mustangs. Knowing full well that he has a squad of talented young men whose motivation and determination could take it until that final game, Coach Lewis' focus is on consistent improvements from one game to the next. An impressive start to the season for Coach Lewis and his Mustangs as they take the season head-on!

For being named Coach of the Week, Homestead High School will receive $1,000 grant from the 49ers Foundation. Coach Lewis will also be featured on Cal-Hi sports and receive two tickets to a 49ers home game where he will be recognized on the field.  In the weeks leading up to the on-field recognition, Lewis will be invited to visit the 49ers training facility in Santa Clara to watch a private practice and receive a certificate from 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.
