Free agency season has begun with a noteworthy roster move by the 49ers.
The team has cleared salary cap room by releasing veteran cornerback Carlos Rogers.
Rogers, the ninth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, signed with San Francisco in 2011 after spending the first six years of his career with the Washington Redskins.**READ: [Decisions on Brown, Whitner Affect Draft

He made a Pro Bowl and was named second-team All-Pro that season. Rogers started in all 48 regular season games that he appeared in for San Francisco.
Rogers also started in five of eight postseason games in his 49ers career. A hamstring injury caused the 6-foot, 192-pound cornerback to miss the team's first two road playoff games in 2013. Rogers returned to action in a limited role in the team's NFC Championship game loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
In three seasons with the 49ers, Rogers recorded 185 tackles, 33 pass breakups, nine interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He also scored a pair of touchdowns, one on an interception return for a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2011, and the other on a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown against the New York Jets in 2012.
