The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that DT Isaac Sopoaga has re-signed with the team. Sopoaga was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on February 29. Terms of the contract were not announced.
Sopoaga (6-2, 321) is a four-year veteran who was originally selected in the fourth round (104th pick overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft by San Francisco. In his career, Sopoaga has posted 114 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three passes defensed.
In 2007, Sopoaga recorded a career-high 58 tackles to go along with 1.5 sacks and one pass defensed as he saw action in all 16 games with five starts. In 2006, he played in 15 contests with one start, totaling 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two passes defensed. He tallied 28 tackles and one forced fumble in 16 games with one start in 2005 after spending his entire rookie season on injured reserve due to a back injury suffered in training camp in 2004.
