The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday they have promoted S Marcell Harris to the active roster from the team's practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team released DB Antone Exum Jr.
Harris (6-0, 208) was originally selected in the sixth round (184th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. Last season, he appeared in eight games (five starts) and registered 31 tackles on defense to go along with five special teams tackles. After spending training camp with the team, he was released on August 31, 2019, and signed to the team's practice squad the following day.
A 25-year-old native of Orlando, FL, Harris played in 37 games (nine starts) in five years for the Gators and registered 102 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three passes defensed.
Harris will wear number 36.
Exum Jr. (6-0, 215) appeared in each of the team's first three games of the season and registered two special teams tackles.
