The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday that they have promoted RB Kendall Gaskins to the active roster from the team's practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team has waived RB Jarryd Hayne.
Gaskins (6-1, 238) originally signed with the 49ers to the team's practice squad on September 1, 2014, where he spent the remainder of the season. He signed a reserve/future contract with San Francisco on December 30, 2014, was released on September 5, 2015, and then signed to the practice squad the following day.
A 24-year-old native of Burlington, NJ, Gaskins attended the University of Richmond where he totaled 605 rushing yards on 148 carries, as a senior. He finished his career second all-time in total rushing touchdowns (38) in school history. Gaskins earned First-Team All-Colonial Conference honors in 2010 and 2012.
Gaskins will wear number 30.
Hayne (6-2, 220) signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on March 3, 2015. He appeared in six games this season and registered eight carries for 25 yards and returned eight punts for 76 yards on special teams.
