NaVorro Bowman, Darnell Dockett, Vernon Davis and Reggie Bush could suit up in Sunday's preseason matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
The four veterans were not among the four active players who will not see the field, as announced pregame by the San Francisco 49ers. Bowman, Dockett, Davis and Bush all sat out of the team's preseason opener against the Houston Texans.
As for who will not play for certain, defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey, linebacker Philip Wheeler, defensive back Jimmie Ward and wide receiver Bruce Ellington will not dress in the first preseason home game against the Cowboys.
When asked on Friday who would play in the Dallas game, coach Jim Tomsula let it be known that it would be a game-time decision.
"You'll see some more guys up," Tomsula said. "We've had different combinations working through the week that you've seen. So, soon we're going to start off with it kind of methodically. We're trying to methodically put that together to see what we need to see."
Rookie wide receiver DeAndre Smelter (NFI), linebacker Michael Wilhoite (NFI) and center Daniel Kilgore (PUP) remain sidelined for San Francisco.
San Francisco has a rivalry with Dallas that dates back to 1960 and includes one of the most memorable plays of all time, "The Catch".
