Carolina Panthers assistant general manager Brandon Beane is the latest name to interview with the San Francisco 49ers for the team's vacant general manager role.

Beane is the sixth candidate to interview with 49ers CEO Jed York.

Beane, 39, had spent seven seasons as Carolina's director of football operations before he was promoted to his current assistant GM post. He joined the Panthers franchise in 1998 as a member of the public relations staff. Beane worked his way through the personnel and scouting ranks, where he now works closely with respected GM David Gettleman.

"Brandon is very deserving of this opportunity," Gettleman said on June 17, 2015, after Beane received his promotion. "He has worked tremendously hard in helping us build this roster, and his responsibilities have increased every year he's been here. He is smart, organized and has a knack for problem-solving. I look forward to continuing to work with him."

Beane has been a part of Carolina's evaluation of players at the professional and collegiate levels. He served as the Panthers' interim general manager during the final 10 games of the 2012 season.
