The 49ers Foundation announced today that Chevron, a supporter of the 49ers off-the-field community efforts for 5 years and the founding partner of 49ers EDU, has extended their longtime partnership.
As a part of the partnership, Chevron will continue as the presenting sponsor of the Chevron STEMZONE at Levi's® Stadium and the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (SLI), both of which were created to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) education across the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition, the extended partnership will offer increased opportunities for students including, career days, and increased access to Chevron employee mentorship and other resources.
"Chevron has been a partner and friend to the 49ers Foundation for many years now and, with the company's unwavering support, the 49ers Foundation has been able to reach hundreds of thousands of students through unique programming opportunities designed to educate and empower Bay Area youth," said 49ers Foundation executive director Justin Prettyman. "Programs like 49ers STEM Leadership Institute and 49ers EDU have thrived under Chevron's strategic support, and we're thrilled to continue our collaboration with a thought-leader in STEM education."
In conjunction with the opening of Levi's® Stadium in 2014, Chevron became the founding partner of 49ers EDU, which provides learning platforms for K-8 students through content-rich lessons using the STEM principles of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. To date, the program has reached more than 210,000 Bay Area students and educators – 60,000 annually – with over 60% of students coming from Title I Designated schools.
Chevron also invested in creating the 49ers SLI program at Cabrillo Middle School in Santa Clara, Calif., where a six-year curriculum that begins in seventh grade and continues through high school works to prepare students with high academic potential for careers in STEM. The 49ers SLI, which launched in 2014 in collaboration between the 49ers, Chevron, the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, and the Santa Clara Unified School District, currently hosts five cohorts of scholars totaling 300 students enrolled in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grade program, which expanded to Santa Clara High School in fall 2016.
"Since 2013 Chevron has invested over $400 million in education worldwide, and the 49ers Foundation has been a critical partner in these efforts," said Steve Woodhead, Chevron's global social investment manager. "Through our strategic partnership we've been able to demonstrate to Northern California students that STEM is all around them, even in the sports we love, and ideally spark interest that leads to successful careers."
Chevron was recently announced as the title sponsor of the 49ers Foundation's upcoming marquee fundraising event, Golden Getaway presented by Chevron at Carmel Valley Ranch, as well as the weekend's Golden Getaway Celebrity Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the event, which will take place from Friday, March 29th – Sunday, March 31st, 2019, will entirely benefit educating and empowering Bay Area youth through the 501(c)(3) non-profit, the 49ers Foundation.
