The 49ers Foundation and the NFL's Smart Heart Sports Coalition is partnering with the Kyle J. Taylor Foundation to donate AEDs to community organizations. The Kyle J. Taylor Foundation (KJTF) is a nonprofit based in San Jose that aims to bring awareness to Sudden Cardiac Arrest in youth, the steps to prevent it, and how to respond to it. The NFL started the coalition March of 2023 in response to the life-saving emergency care provided to Damar Hamlin when he went into Sudden Cardiac Arrest on January 2, 2023. The coalition is made up of major sports organizations and leading medical & advocacy groups.

The coalition is advocating for the implementation of three best practice policies to prevent death from Sudden Cardiac Arrest:

  • Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for each school athletic venue that are widely distributed, posted, rehearsed, and updated annually.
  • Clearly marked automated external defibrillator (AEDs) at each athletic venue or within 1-3 minutes of each venue where practices or competitions are held.
  • CPR and AED education for coaches.

Schools, Boys & Girls Clubs/ YMCA, Youth Sports Leagues and other Non-Profits are all encouraged to apply for an AED. The application deadline is Friday, March 28, 2025. Selected organizations will be notified by Monday, April 7, 2025.
