Finalists for the NFL's weekly awards are out, and for the second-straight week Jimmy Garoppolo has been nominated for the Castrol Edge Clutch Performer of the Week. Garoppolo finished 21-of-30 passing for 242 yards and two touchdowns in the 44-33 upset over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 49ers 44 points were the most scored on the Jaguars this season and the franchise's most since Week 3 in 2015 against the New England Patriots (51).
Garoppolo has become the first 49ers quarterback since the merger in 1970 to win each of his first four starts with the team. His 1,250 passing yards since Week 13 are the most by a 49ers QB in his first four starts in franchise history.
In addition to Garoppolo, Solomon Thomas is up for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week. Thomas recorded six tackles, five solo, one sack, one tackle for loss and one quarterback hit in the 49ers win over the Jaguars. Thomas now has three sacks on the season.
Thomas' Week 16 performance marks his third nomination for the award this season.
