Two members of the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame have been selected as semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Running back Roger Craig and former owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. were announced as two of the 25 modern-era semifinalists for the Class of 2014.
Former 49ers Charles Haley and Kevin Greene were also selected among the 25 semifinalists. Running back Ricky Watters and defensive tackle Bryant Young were among the notable former 49ers players not selected.
DeBartolo Jr. was the owner of San Francisco's five Super Bowl-winning teams. He previously has made it to the final round of 15 candidates in each of the past two years.
Craig, a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion, was a Hall of Fame finalist in 2010.
Both former 49ers contributors will have stiff competition to make it to Canton. The Hall of Fame selection committee will trim the semifinalist to 15 modern-era finalists. The announcement will come on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Next, the Class of 2014 will be announced at the selection committee's annual meeting on Saturday, Feb. 1 in New York, one day prior to Super Bowl XLVIII.
