The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed WR Kassim Osgood to a one-year contract. The team placed LB Nick Moody on the Injured Reserve/Designated for Return List. He will not be eligible to practice with the team until at least 6 weeks have passed, and cannot be activated until at least 8 weeks have passed.
Osgood (6-5, 220) rejoins the 49ers after spending the majority of this past offseason and training camp with the team, before being released on August 31. A two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection as a special teamer, he has played in 152 career games and registering 44 receptions for 749 yards and five touchdowns, while also adding 122 special teams tackles during his 10-year career.
After originally signing with San Diego as an undrafted free agent in 2003, he spent seven years with the Chargers before signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2010. Osgood spent two seasons with the Jaguars, appearing in 28 games (five starts) prior to spending the 2012 season with the Detroit Lions, where he appeared in all 16 games.
A 33-year-old native of Boston, MA, Osgood played at San Diego State University where he finished second in the nation with 108 receptions earning First-Team All-Mountain West honors as a senior.
