The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday that they have named Austin Moss IIdirector of player engagement, promoted Keena Turner to Vice President and Senior Advisor to the General Manager and promoted Ethan Waughto College Scouting Director.
Under Moss II's direction, player engagement will continue to develop programs designed to assist players in making a smooth transition in and out of professional football as well as life skills development, financial education, post career and occupational development, continued education and degree completion.
Moss II joins the 49ers after more than six years with the National Football League in multiple roles. He began his career with the NFL as a PREP program and social media intern in 2012 and was later named manager of NFL Player Engagement in August of 2013 before moving to his most recent role of senior manager, football administration and development in 2016. With the NFL, Moss II oversaw the administration and execution of all PREP programs and managed social media and digital content. He served as a liaison to Senior Vice President Troy Vincent Sr. and coordinated all logistics/planning for PREP programs.
Moss II attended the University of Kentucky where he played along the defensive line. He graduated with a marketing degree from Kentucky in 2009 and later earned his MBA from the University of Central Florida in 2010 and Master of Science in Sports Business Management from UCF in 2011.
For more than three decades,Turner has been a part of the 49ers as both a player and member of the team's front office. He has spent the previous 10 seasons as the Vice President of Football Affairs. A member of the 49ers 10-year wall, Turner was originally selected by the 49ers in the second round (39th overall) of the 1980 NFL Draft and was a member of four Super Bowl (XVI, XIX, XXIII and XXIV) victories with San Francisco.
Waugh enters his 15th year with the 49ers, having served the previous three (2015-17) as senior player personnel coordinator. He spent three seasons as the team's senior personnel assistant where he worked with all aspects of player personnel. In addition, Waugh spent four seasons as the team's Midwest regional scout. Prior to being promoted to an area scout in 2008, Waugh served as the team's personnel assistant where he was involved in a variety of areas, including the evaluation and scouting of college and professional players and working extensively with the 49ers scouting database.
